Hogwarts Legacy is the first action open-world RPG set in the Wizarding World. Set before both film franchises, the game focuses on your character's adventures, struggles, and personal goals as a student at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. This new adventure, set in the late 1800s, allows fans new and old to explore iconic locales at Hogwarts Castle and further afield. While researching potential directions for the identity, historical typography with a magical twist became the driving force. The identity encapsulates the Ancient Magic central to the game's primary storyline through unusual ligatures and the ancient magic swirl at the center of the logotype. The arcane typography was wrought in yellow gold, textured with a bit of surface patina to reference forgotten magical treasure found in the dungeons under Hogwarts.
My contribution to the project was focused on creating identities that felt like the familiar Wizarding World and a mysterious new story waiting to be explored. In addition to custom logotype options based on 1850s typography, I also created mood boards referencing different visual languages from the time period and cleaned up the finalized drawing to be more typographically cohesive. Once the finalized flat logo was approved, I created logo versions for the French and Polish localizations of the game. To help art direct the logo rendering, I created sketch logo rendering options to be used as discussion points with the client before WORKS ADV did their final rendering pass.
