Multiocular Type is an independent type foundry that I founded in early 2023. With the goals of teaching myself type design and creating work without a client, this foundry has become the core of my creative practice.
At its heart, ꙮ Type is a space for experiments and exploration into the world of typographic design. My type is characterized by a split allegiance to real-world sources and a characteristic touch of whimsy or purposeful shunning of convention. Our house grotesque, called Gargoyle New, has letterforms that feel pulled in two different directions–the old world of the earliest grotesques and a more modern approach to conspicuous uses of ink traps.
From the beginning of the foundry, I wanted to create type that was accessible across the world. Currently, both of our available families are created using the Latin S character set described by Christoph Koeberlin in addition to the Currency Symbols in a Latin Language Character Set described by Alanna Munro. This allows our type to currently be usable in approximately 400 different languages.
